We have a light switch project that built in VS2012 and using MSBuild on a build server.

This project has been converted to VS2015. On the build server it builds fine in VS but gives the following errors when using msbuild:

An error occurred while signing: SignTool.exe not found.

I recently upgraded from Visual Studio 2013 Community to the 2015 edition of Community. However, when I attempted to open one of my older projects that i created in VS 2013 Community, the error, "An error occurred while signing: SignTool.exe not found.", prevented my ability to run the project.

I faced this issue with a C# console application as well, but when i created a new project and copied the code from the original project, it worked as expected.  However, this project that I am now facing the issue with is a VB project, that has multiple forms and a substantial amount of controls, so I am unable to just copy and paste code on this occasion.

It is very important that I am able to work on this project, so any help/suggestion is welcome.

Thank you

MSBuild giving errors when generating Auto-Builds

I am trying to create Auto-Build configuration in my environment. It is giving the following errors in the Visual Studio:

C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v12.0\OfficeTools\Microsoft.VisualStudio.Tools.Office.targets (268):The "TargetFrameworkVersion" parameter is not supported by the "SignFile" task. Verify the parameter exists on the task, and it is a settable public instance property.

C:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft\VisualStudio\v12.0\OfficeTools\Microsoft.VisualStudio.Tools.Office.targets (264):The "SignFile" task could not be initialized with its input parameters.

Environment:

TFS 2010

VS 2013 Update 4
VS 2015 Update 2

Note: The solution includes an Excel Addin project.

Both the above two Visual Studio gives the same error.

Thanks.

An annoying problem - A site that works locally in VS2005 - doesn't work when copied to the web & IIS 6

Hi,

This is really frustrating. I have a working site when run through VS2005. All previous versions of the site worked.

So I publish the site with "Allow this precompiled site to be updatable" unticked.

I remove the old site versions files and Copy the new version of the site upto the server. Lots of stuff works , new pages work, however some old unchanged pages no longer work and the error message is:

The file '/App_Forms/Reporting.aspx' has not been pre-compiled, and cannot be requested.

Now I see the stub file and the file in the bin dir, this is an old file that used to work fine and has had no changes, also it works when compiled up in vs2005.

Based on some other posts out there I already reinstalled ASP.net 2.0, no luck.

So I'm scratching my head and totally frustrated any one got any ideas?

Thanks

How to: Integrate Custom Tools into the Project Properties

$

I am trying to create a custom build rule in my solution to be used for all files with a certain extension. Nothing fancy, something like for each file with extension PP execute commandprocess.exe %(FullPath).  I can go file by file and change its properties to "Custom Build Tool" and set its command line manually, but it's rather annoying.

I've found an article about it in MSDN here: https://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ff770593(v=vs.100).aspx but the article doesn't seem correct (probably outdated?)

-  I don't have %ProgramFiles%\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0 folder on my computer

-  I do have c:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0 folder but there is no cl.xml file inside. Actually there are no files inside whatsoever.

- Probably I should use the cl.xml file from c:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\V140\1033 folder, but after copying/modifying it as mentioned in the article, I can't seem to be able to find where to put i. I've tried

c:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0\V140\1033

c:\Program Files (x86)\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0

%LOCALAPPDATA%\Microsoft\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0

Even tried to create a %ProgramFiles%\Local\MSBuild\Microsoft.Cpp\v4.0 folder and put it there as the article suggest - no luck.

Any suggestion what I should do are much appreciated!

Thanks.

Wants to avoid absolute pdb path in assemblies while building the application (Still need pdb files; so cannot change Debug Info in build settings to none)

$

Hi,

I have been struggling with a problem for last few days. I have a c#.Net windows application (VS 2013). Whenever, I build it, I get pdb file's absolute path in the corresponding assemblies. Per a security audit, I need to get rid off these pdb file references from the assemblies.

I know one way; if I change the build setting's 'Debug Info'  field to 'none', the assemblies will not have these references any longer. Though due to some reasons, I can not stop producing pdb files as I may need them in future to debug the application.

Can some suggest if there is some other way to fix the problem?

Building Managed C++ code with MSBuild 14.0

Hi Guys,

I am attempting to upgrade a solution to use msbuild 14 instead of 12 and have hit an issue.

It seems that it is not able to consume managed c++ code as well as the old compiler.

To clarify, the managed c++ code is built using msBuild 12, but i am attempting to consume it with msBuild 14.

(On a side note, the managed c++ code compiles with msBuild 14, but this also is not consumed by msBuild 14.

The error I get is:

ErrorCS1545Property, indexer, or event 'class.prop is not supported by the language; try directly calling accessor methods 'class.get_prop()' or 'class.set_prop(bool)'

Has anyone experienced this before? Any help is appreciated.

Cheers,

Tom

Generate XML Comments files for all projects in a solution

$

I am attempting to automate generation of Xml Files in my Solution using MSBuild.

I have been using this command to generate my Xml Documentation:

msbuild $solutionFile /t:Rebuild "/p:Configuration=$buildConfiguration;Platform=$buildPlatform;GenerateDocumentation=$true"

Of course, this never worked so after searching on the forums, I came across this additonal parameter:

msbuild $solutionFile /t:Rebuild "/p:Configuration=$buildConfiguration;Platform=$buildPlatform;GenerateDocumentation=$true;DocumentationFile=MyXmlComments.xml"

However, the problem with this solution is that it generates the same exact Xml Comments file name for ALL of my projects in the entire solution!

Is there any better way to generate the Xml Comments for each of my projects in the solution such that they match the project name (MyNamespace.xml) (just as when I build directly through Visual Studio)?

Please advise.

Thanks.

Please give me the PATH values so that
MSBuild is available and
it uses Visual Studio 2012 for compiling and linking a Win32 application
on an unprepared command prompt.

I apologize to ask a simple question but I have already spent several hours in vain searching for a solution; I found it for VS2010 and 2013, but not 2012.

Extending existing ProjectSchemaDefinitions / Rule.

Is it possible to extend existing ProjectSchemaDefinitions / Rule element to add more properties? I would like to add my custom property toClCompile items. Yet it looks like it cannot be done (at least not without repeating everything with added property).

Without such extension my custom property will never show up in Visual Studio properties dialog and user willing to set it would have to do it manually by text editing the project file.

Hello,

I am frequently (not always) getting the following permission error while building my code with Visual Studio 2005 CL compiler.

"fatal error C1083: Cannot open include file: 'XXX.tlh': Permission denied"

I do have the #import directive to import type library (.tlb) in my code but I am not using the /MP option. (Is the /MP option enabled by default?)  What would be cause of this?  How can I avoid this?

Creating satellite assemblies

Hi

Have people got an example of creating satellite assemblies using msbuild.

Here is mine and it builds but the de-DE does not work. The fr-FR does even though the files are identical. I am guess

a) My approach is a bit rubbish

b) One file is being overwritten by another

Is there a standard approach for this

Disabling parallel builds on solution level

Hi,

I have projects with custom build targets and I need to ensure that these project will not be built in parallel regardless of MSVC build and run settings. How do I achieve that? I assume it should be possible to disable this in solution file, but I wasn't able to find any documentation. Any hints are very appreciated.

Msbuild publish profile not being passed to second web project for solution with multiple projects

$

I am trying to deploy via Hudson and there,

I have a solution file which has two web projects. Each web project has a publish profile of the same name.

It seems only the first web project built is taking the publish profile and the second one is not considering the publish profile.

My msbuild command

/p:Configuration=Release /t:Rebuild /p:PublishProfile=Normal /p:DeployOnBuild=true

and my second publish profile has

<PrecompileBeforePublish>True</PrecompileBeforePublish> <EnableUpdateable>True</EnableUpdateable><DebugSymbols>False</DebugSymbols><WDPMergeOption>CreateSeparateAssembly</WDPMergeOption> <UseFixedNames>True</UseFixedNames>

But the aspnet compiler is not getting passed with these options when I look at the logs for the second web site.

From the logs, I can see that first web project has

Validating PublishProfile(Normal) settings ,and the second project doesn't have that.

This is a mixed solution file which has the C# web project and  VB.net Website.

Basically what I want is the two sites taking different publish profiles and currently it seems only the first one is taking that and my second website project is not getting the publish profile.

If I run this using VS2013, the websites are published properly.
